SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is a Digital Public Good! It is the first and only commercial Linux product to receive this recognition from the Digital Public Goods Alliance, a testament to how our products are having an impact on our society and our planet.

According to the UN Secretary General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, digital public goods are defined as open source software, open standards, open data, open AI systems, and open content collections that adhere to privacy and other applicable best practices, do no harm, and are of high relevance for the attainment of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Achieving the title of Digital Public Good (DPG) is a powerful statement. This translates into three key advantages:

  • Validation of the Highest Standards: This isn’t just SUSE claiming our product is good; it’s verification from the highest level. SLES has been independently vetted by the UN-endorsed Digital Public Goods Alliance, proving it complies with their strict standards for privacy, security, open-source principles, and reliability. This confirms SLES as a world-class, high-quality leading and defining solution.
  • Confirmation of SUSE’s Global Impact: The DPG designation is a formal recognition that SLES is a building block for solving major global challenges, like making healthcare and education more accessible and effective through technological innovation. This validates the meaningful impact of the work we do every day.
  • Creation of Major Business Opportunities: Being listed on the official DPG Registry puts SLES in front of governments, major institutions, and funding organizations seeking proven, scalable solutions. This immediately gives SLES an unparalleled level of credibility, making it a preferred choice for adoption and funding in large-scale, impactful projects.

This designation underscores the true openness of our code and technology which distinctly separates us from other Linux products. Additionally, this credential recognizes SLES for contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) by enhancing infrastructure, supporting industrialization, and fostering innovation. By meeting the stringent criteria set forth by the Digital Public Good Alliance, SLES is directly advancing  the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

This milestone validates SUSE’s dedication to innovation and true open source principles and customers that choose SLES will be supporting technology for the greater good. We’re looking forward to continuing to partner with our customers with our work to foster innovation, economic growth and sustainable development.
