SLES11 SP1 system panics after an update to kernel version

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1


This issue has been observed on HP Proliant DL 385 G5 and DL 145
After update to kernel version, the system does not boot anmore.
The screen is black or the last lines of the crash are seen.
Using vga=normal as kernel boot option or an attached serial console does show that the system panics with the following call trace:
