SLES11 SP1 system panics after an update to kernel version 2.6.32.19-0.2

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
 

Situation

This issue has been observed on HP Proliant DL 385 G5 and DL 145
After update to kernel version 2.6.32.19-0.2, the system does not boot anmore.
The screen is black or the last lines of the crash are seen.
Using vga=normal as kernel boot option or an attached serial console does show that the system panics with the following call trace:

Resolution

Install the kernel update released October 2010.
