How to sync SUSE Manager using a SMT server.

This document (7021128) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 3.0
SUSE Manager 3.1

Situation

'susemanager-tools' provide an option to sync repositories from a SMT server, instead of syncing directly from the SUSE Customer Center (SCC).

Resolution

p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; }

mgr-sync allows syncing a SUSE Manager from a SMT in two modes, temporary by using the command:

mgr-sync -d 3 refresh --refresh-channels --from-mirror http://<smt-host>

or by editing '/etc/rhn/rhn.conf' and statically configuring the the option :

server.susemanager.mirror = http://<smt-host>

When SSL-Certificates are needed to access SMT via https, than the SMT certificate needs to be placed into folder :

/usr/share/pki/trust/anchors

Afterwards it is required to run the following command :

/usr/sbin/update-ca-certificates

Please note: Directly placing certs into the folder '/etc/ssl/cert' would only just work temporarily, until the next execution of  'update-ca-certificates' takes place, which may happen via one of the regular maintenance updates.
