IBM DB2 may not properly operate after upgrade from SLES 11 SP1 to SLES 11 SP2

This document (7010599) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

The IBM DB2 engine may segfault after an upgrade from SUSE Linux  Enterprise 11 SP1 to SP2.
This does not occur if IBM DB2 is freshly  installed after the upgrade, only if the previously installed
DB2 binary is used.

Resolution

After the upgrade to SLES 11 SP2 and prior to restarting DB2 execute the
following commands as root:

# echo /usr/sbin/rsct/lib64 > /etc/ld.so.conf.d/db2rsct.conf
# /sbin/ldconfig

Cause

During installation of DB2 the IBM installer adds data to the  /etc/ld.conf.so file.
This file is replaced during the migration from SP1 to SP2 and thus the information added by the DB2 installer is lost.
This causes specific libraries not to be found when DB2 is running. This in turn triggers a segfault in DB2.
