Update of the client fails with a message "repomd.xml.asc: [Errno 14] HTTPS Error 404 - Not Found"

This document (000021222) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 4.3 Server

Situation

Update of clients like CentOS or Red Hat (multiple clients can be affected) using SUSE Manager Server fails with the error message:
https://susemanager.fqdn:443/rhn/manager/download/centos7-updates-x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml.asc: [Errno 14] HTTPS Error 404 - Not Found
The error message occurs in spite of the fact that metadata for channels exist on the SUSE Manager Server.

Resolution

Solution 1:  Disable or remove the following option from `/etc/rhn/rhn.conf` file on the SUSE Manager Server:
sign_metadata=1
Solution 2:  Sign the repository metadata based on the following SUSE Manager guide.

Cause

The error can be caused by incorrectly/not signed metadata for the channels and/or by using the option `sign_metadata=1` in `/etc/rhn/rhn.conf` on the SUSE Manager server.
