How to switch from PackageHub packages to supported version

This document (000021407) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15

Situation

While a package is already installed from PackageHub, a newer supported version of the package in another repository is available.

In the below example a supported version of the same package was added to the Public Cloud Module.
The package is not updated by default as it would be needed to allow a vendor change from openSUSE to SUSE:
sles15sp2: # zypper se -s python3-crcmod
...
S | Name | Type | Version | Arch | Repository
---+----------------+---------+----------------+--------+--------------------------------------
i+ | python3-crcmod | package | 1.7-5.3.2 | x86_64 | SLE-Module-Public-Cloud15-SP2-Updates
v | python3-crcmod | package | 1.7-bp152.3.15 | x86_64 | SUSE-PackageHub-15-SP2-Backports-Pool

Resolution

The package can be updated to the supported version from Public Cloud Module allowing a vendor change with the option --allow-vendor-change.

 zypper up --allow-vendor-change python3-crcmod
