Situation

A registration code is not required when registering a Client against a SMT server, so all registered Clients will show up in SCC as "No subscription assigned", this is the correct and the only supported method to register Clients. However, it is possible to assign a subscription during the registration of a Client, this TID explains how.

Resolution

Method #1: Open a root session on the Client system to register and run:

      SUSEConnect -r YOUR-SLES-REGCODE-HERE --url http://YOUR-SMT-FQDN-HERE --debug &> /tmp/slesregd3.txt

Method #2: Open a root session on the Client system to register and edit the /etc/SUSEConnect file, and replace all the lines for these:

      insecure: false
      url: http://YOUR-SMT-FQDN-HERE
      language: en_US.utf8

Save the changes, exit the editor, and then run:

      SUSEConnect -r YOUR-SLES-REGCODE-HERE --debug &> /tmp/sles12regd3.txt

If any problems, double-check the generated .txt log file for errors.
