Installation of SLES 11 SP3 in UEFI mode hangs while loading initrd

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)


Installation of SLES 11 SP3 in UEFI mode by booting from the Installation CD hangs after:

Loading kernel ...
Secure boot not enabled
Loading initial ramdisk ...

and never continues.


Installation can be done by downloading and booting from a kISO instead of the original installation media. The original SLES 11 SP3 iso or CD is still used to install the system afterwards.
