Clean up disk space on SUMA 4.3

This document (000021916) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 4.3
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4

Situation

Clean up disk space on SUSE Manager 4.3 prior to migrating to SUSE Multi Linux Manager 5.x.

Resolution

Important: Prior to deleting data with steps below ensure that a backup and or Snapshot is created.

Freeing Disk Space
Running out of disk space can have a severe impact on the SUSE Manager database and file structure which, in most cases, is not recoverable. SUSE Manager monitors free space in specific directories, and has configurable alerts. For more on space management, see Managing Disk Space.

Disk space can be recovered by removing unused software channels. For instructions on how to delete vendor channels, see Channel Management.

For instructions on how to delete custom channels, see Custom Channels.

You can also check how often your custom channels are synchronized. For instructions on how deal with custom channel synchronization, see Custom Channel Synchronization.

Disk space can also be recovered by cleaning up unused activation keys, content lifecycle projects, and client registrations.

Database

Removing redundant database entries can free up disk space using these commands:

  1. Use the spacewalk-data-fsck command to list any redundant database entries.

  2. Use the spacewalk-data-fsck --remove command to delete them.

Old database migration upgrades that have successfully completed may leave remnants in the filesystem.  You can safely delete the old database directory and reclaim lost disk space. The old directory is renamed to /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg12 or /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg10, depending on the version you started from.

After a successful database migration, the old version of the PostgreSQL database software is no longer needed.

Cause

Delete old data that is not needed to migrate to SUSE Linux Multi Manager 5.x
