The mouse does not work on a SLES vm on Hyper-V

This document (7007947) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V

Situation

Mouse is not captured when accessing a SLES VM over a remote connection.

Resolution

The mouse on a Suse Linux Enterprise (SLE) VM is not captured in a nested RDP session to a Hyper-V server.
Therefore, in order to have mouse support, access the VM directly in one of the following methods:
  • Directly from the Hyper-V server's console
  • Use "ssh -X <user@vm ip or host name" to access the SLE VM directly
  • Use VNC to access the SLE VM directly.

Additional Information

VMConnect is the utility used to connect to a Hyper-V virtual machine that is built into Hyper-V Manager.  VMConnect uses RDP as the connection protocol to remote the virtual machine video and input.  When you RDP into the Parent Partition and attempt to connect to a virtual machine via VMConnect, you encounter the problem described in this article.

For Suse Linux Enterprise (SLE) 10 SP3 there is a possible solution but it is not supported by SUSE:
Download and install the InputVSC Driver from Citrix Project Satori @ http://www.xen.org/download/satori.html.
