SUSE® has made it easier for customers to take advantage of the processing power and innovations of the latest hardware with the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Service Pack 4. In addition, scalability improvements in SP4 will allow more customers to run large-scale workloads such as in-memory databases on SUSE Linux Enterprise 11.
"SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Service Pack 4 enhances today's infrastructure and prepares customers for tomorrow's challenges," said George Shi, SUSE Linux Enterprise product marketing manager. "With applications from more than 4,000 independent software vendors certified on the platform, the 19,000 customers who trust SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 will also benefit from the up to seven additional years of support with SP4."
SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 supports five hardware architectures—x86-32, AMD64, Intel 64, Intel Itanium processor-based systems, IBM Power and IBM z Systems—and adds support in SP4 for Intel Xeon Processor E7-8800/4800 v3 product families, IBM z13 and IBM POWER8. In terms of scalability, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 is certified on large systems with 4,096 logical CPUs and 64 TiB RAM, and SP4 enhancements target large-scale workloads with faster boot times that reduce planned downtime, more efficient memory management, and upgrades to the Btrfs file system to improve performance and manageability.
SP4 also upgrades key components in the high availability clustering stack—including pacemaker, booth and ReaR—to the same versions in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12. These upgrades allow customers to fully exploit the stack to enhance service availability for mission-critical workloads. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension, a system specifically engineered to reduce latency and increase the predictability and reliability of time-sensitive, mission-critical applications, is also upgraded.
