"var-pgsql" persistent volume fills up due to uncontrolled growth of the "pg_wal" directory

This document (000022057) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.1 Server

Situation

After migration from SUSE Manager 4.3 to SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.1 Server, the var-pgsql persistent volume is filling up due to uncontrolled growth of the pg_wal directory.

Resolution

From the host server change the archive command in "/var/lib/containers/storage/volumes/var-pgsql/_data/postgresql.conf" to:

archive_command = '/bin/true'

Then restart the containers with:

mgradm restart

Cause

The archive command option within the database configuration uses:

archive_command = '/usr/bin/smdba-pgarchive --source "%p" --destination "/var/spacewalk/BACKUP/backup_db/%f"'

which is a "leftover" configuration from SUSE Manager 4.3. Starting with SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.1, the smdba tool has been deprecated.

Additional Information

See the online documentation for the current Backup and Restore details.
