SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
VMware ESXi
VMware Workstation

VMware tools will not finish installing
Error message "The path “/usr/src/linux/include” is a kernel header file directory, but it does not contain the file “linux/version.h”

  1. Launch YaST | Software Management and make sure kernel-source is installed
  2. Also make sure that kernel-syms package is installed
  3. If Step 1 and 2 has been completed or is not necessary because at some stage this has already been done but "/usr/bin/" is still complaining about missing headers, try the following and run /usr/bin/ again
    cd /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/include/linux
    ln -s ../generated/autoconf.h
    ln -s ../generated/utsrelease.h
