SLES for SAP Upgrade returns: "Error: Product SLES for SAP Applications will be automatically removed"

During the Upgrade from SLES for SAP 11 SP3 or SP4 to SLES for SAP 12 SP1 via the DVD Media, the "Installation Settings" screen shows the message:

Update Options
  - Some products are marked for automatic removal.
  - Contact the vendor of the removed add-on to provide you with a new installation media
  - Or select the appropriate online extension or module in the registration step
  - Or to continue with product upgrade go to the software selection and mark the product (the -release package) for removal. 

- New product SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1 will be installed
  - Error: Product SLES for SAP Applications will be automatically removed.
  - Update based on patterns
  - Base System
  - Minimal System (Appliances)
  - GNOME Desktop Environment
  - X Window System


On the "Installation Settings" screen showing the error message, press the "Back" button to get back to the "Registration" screen. Once there complete the "Email Address" and "Registration Code" fields with the proper email address and registration code (the same used to activate the SLES for SAP Subscription in SCC), and then continue with the process by pressing the "Next" button.

If direct connection to the internet is not possible or it is needed to do the installation offline, please follow the instructions in the TID 7018320


The upgrade process needs to run the registration against SCC in order to get the requirements for the SLES for SAP 12 product and to download the proper packages.
