NeuVector Customer FAQ
Is NeuVector now open source?
Yes. SUSE announced in January 2022 the release of NeuVector, the
industry’s first open source container security platform.
The NeuVector codebase is available to the open source community on Github.
This is a testament to SUSE’s open-source culture and commitment to deliver open, interoperable and innovative solutions to partners and customers.

Why is this significant?
NeuVector is the industry’s first end-to-end open source container
security platform, the only solution that delivers enterprise grade zero
trust security for containerized workloads.
NeuVector is an industry-leading security and compliance solution adopted by top companies around the world. Open sourcing the NeuVector codebase not only makes NeuVector the technology of choice for the open source community, it also provides an even greater level of assurance, trust and reliability to customers, especially in highly regulated industries including government and federal customers.

What does the switch to open source mean to me?
We strongly believe this move will help drive significant ecosystem
innovation in Kubernetes security – an industry that has traditionally
been dominated by closed source, proprietary solutions. NeuVector’s
transition to an open source container security platform means the open
source community will now be able to join and even contribute together to
advance innovation. As container security continues to be a critical need
for organizations building and running Kubernetes applications, NeuVector
addresses major security use cases across the application lifecycle. These
include:
- Deep network visibility
- Inspection with intrusion protection (IDS/IPS), WAF and data leakage prevention (DLP)
- Segmentation
- Vulnerability
- Configuration
- Compliance management
- Risk profiling
- Threat detection
- Incident response
What do I need to do next (if anything)?
You don’t need to do anything just yet - we will continue to support your
current licensed 4.x version. However, we do need to let you know that
we're moving development resources into 5.x, the open source version,
where you will get the benefit of having access to the brand new features
that we'll be releasing.
The NeuVector open source container images can be installed on any Kubernetes cluster. It will also be available for SUSE Rancher users to easily install from the SUSE Rancher application catalogue. Going forward we anticipate greater levels of integration to ensure NeuVector delivers unparalleled value to SUSE Rancher customers. In the spirit of our strategy towards openness, NeuVector will continue to be a great solution for all cloud native adopters’ use with other enterprise container management platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift, VMWare Tanzu, Google GKE, Amazon EKS, Microsoft Azure AKS and others.
