Comprehensive server maintenance program enables investment security and ensures smooth IT system operation

Oakland

SUSE Linux today announced the extension of its system maintenance program for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to five years, future-proofing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with a comprehensive maintenance program.

SUSE offers enterprise customers a stable, secure server operating system - enhanced regularly with new features, fixes, and other improvements -- guaranteeing long-term planning and investment security.

"By extending the system maintenance cycle for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, we have given IT decision makers, public administrations, and software manufacturers more investment security -- delivering a service quality unprecedented in the Linux sector," said Holger Dyroff, General Manager, Americas, SUSE Linux.

Maintenance, Updates, Support - the Services of the SUSE Linux Maintenance Program

The "SUSE Linux Maintenance Program" enables enterprises to keep their server landscape up to date -- ensuring maximum security and optimum system availability. The "soft" IT costs of license administration and new system configuration can be reduced considerably with SUSE Maintenance.

Participants in the Maintenance Program access the "SUSE Linux Maintenance Web" -- which offers comprehensive, documented functional enhancements and security fixes. Because SUSE confirms that the interface configuration is not altered by the enhancements provided within the scope of the system maintenance, uninterrupted server operation is guaranteed. SUSE also assists users with e-mail-based support for issues ranging from the installation to the hookup to the company network throughout the entire term of the Maintenance Program. In addition, the web-based SUSE Support Database can be accessed at all times with no restrictions. Furthermore, new product versions can be downloaded free of charge or purchased in the form of Installation Kits (CDs and manuals).

Flexible, Expandable, and Efficient - Modular System Maintenance for Five Years

Users who purchase SUSE Linux Enterprise Server are automatically entitled to participate in the Maintenance Program. The subscription is valid for 12 months from the registration and can easily be extended by additional terms of 12 months or expanded to include additional servers.

The system maintenance term of five years is structured in three overlapping phases:

  • Deployment - from the release until there is evidence that the subsequent version fully supports the products of leading software and hardware providers.

  • Full Maintenance -- starting from the release of a product. Upon completion and passing of quality assurance tests, new fixes and functional enhancements are immediately made available for download on the Maintenance Web.

  • Support & Security Maintenance -- extends over a period of five years from the release of the product. During this term, security fixes are developed, tested, and made available. Even after the expiration of this period, the fixes continue to be available for download on the Maintenance Web. SUSE experts are on hand to handle individual support requests during the full Maintenance term. The SUSE Linux Maintenance Program can be expanded to include support services with guaranteed turnaround times. Thus, customers have the assurance that qualified assistance for the running system is available from SUSE at all times.
