September 20, 2001

Fastcenter partners with Oracle and SUSE Linux to deliver a turnkey Oracle Database on Linux solution complete with a Remote Managed Service option.

San Francisco

In a move aimed at delivering Enterprise Class Support for Oracle Databases on the SUSE Linux platform, President Mark Jumaga announced today Fastcenter has released a new managed service and product sales website.

"The certification of Oracle 9.0.1 database on SUSE linux was a watershed event for the Linux community." explains Mark Jumaga, President and CEO of Fastcenter Corporation. "For the first time ever a new Oracle database version was certified on Linux before NT/2000, showing the confidence Oracle has in the SUSE Linux platform. We at Fastcenter are Oracle on SUSE Linux specialists, and we see nothing but triple digit growth rates for the future of our SUSE Linux hardware business. Additionally, with our new managed services website, we can deliver remote backup, monitoring, replication and dba services to a completely new class of business."

"Oracle based on SUSE linux is one of the best Enterprise Class Solutions" said Holger Dyroff, Director of Sales North America, SUSE Inc. "We are excited that Fastcenter is ahead of the curve in providing Enterprise class services and solutions for this combination."

According to Jumaga, Linux has many more truly dedicated members of the database community than it's closest class competitor, Windows 2000. "A quick look at the Oracle support discussion forum reveals 17,000 Linux discussion postings, more even than the XML forum with 15,000. In fact, the only discussion board with more postings than the Linux forum is the Java forum with 23,000. With Oracle 9.0.1 database certified for SuSE Linux 2.4.4 kernel we are prepared to finally deliver a rock solid Unix database platform to the data processing community, with guaranteed service levels, at PC hardware prices."

Fastcenter hardware and software sales last year were 50% better than the year before, with most of those sales in the Solaris on Intel marketplace for servers such as in use at Excite, Lucent, Intuit and Valuestar Certified.

"Watch this space in the coming weeks, because we are going to release performance statistics for Oracle on SUSE against NT2000 and similarly priced Sun hardware. These statistics are going to prove that the Linux 2.4.4 kernel with a tuned Oracle database is going to be a very serious competitor for the data processing dollar."
