dmesg shows CCP and PSP initialization failure related messages

This document (000019676) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1

Situation

Systems with AMD Rome processors display the following messages in dmesg:

CCP initialization failed
PSP Initialization failed

The CCP message indicates that the CCP device is not available.
The PSP message indicates its dependency on the SEV feature.

Resolution

These messages may not indicate a failure in the system, and in this case, these messages can be ignored.
The messages can be fixed by updating to SLES 15 SP2.

Cause

The kernel reported that the CCP initialization failed instead of unavailability of the CCP device.
The kernel reported that PSP initialization failed if SEV is disabled or not supported.
Both messages were changed in the upstream kernel (5.5.7) and the SLES15 SP2 kernel.
The patch for the first report changed the message to reflect status instead of failure and the second patch updated the driver messages to remove some confusion.
