VNC connection through http results in black screen.

This document (7008224) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Desktop 11 SP1
Remote access enabled in YaST-->Network Services-->Remote Administration (VNC)

Situation

Remote Administration (VNC) has been enabled in YaST on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Desktop 11 SP1 system.  Attempting to connect to the system using a web browser to port 5801 results in a black screen or a message indicating that the connection failed.

Resolution

On the VNC server system, go into YaST and select Network Services --> Network Services (xinetd).

Scroll down to the "vnchttp1" selection and edit it.

Look for the parameter -noreset and delete it.

Select "Finish" to save the change.

Try to connect again.  This time it should work much better.

Additional Information

This problem appears to be a left over from the previous version of the OS.  This parameter entry only seems to show up if the system was upgraded from SLE 11 (no SP) to SLE 11 SP1.
