Performance, reliability, security and scalability for developers and IT moving to the cloud

Nuremberg, Germany

SUSE today announced the general availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on Google Compute Engine for all machine instance types. It provides the performance, reliability, security and scalability that development teams and IT operations groups require when moving to the cloud.

"Today's enterprise users demand performance, scale, flexibility and security in order to run their applications," said Chris Rimer, head of Global Partners for Google. "Now with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server generally available for Google Compute Engine, customers have the ability to consume SUSE on a pay-per-minute basis. By working with SUSE, we are able to offer customers a powerful and consistent open source experience with Google Cloud Platform and Compute Engine."

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server delivers a consistent user experience, running on Google Compute Engine as if it were running on site. Working together, SUSE and Google have ensured that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server instances deliver the same enterprise features and receive the same patches, security updates and performance enhancements. This consistency of experience helps developers and IT operations feel confident in both deploying applications from the data center to Google Compute Engine or taking newly developed applications from Google Compute Engine and moving to an on-premise physical, virtual or private cloud environment.

Michael Miller, SUSE vice president of global alliances and marketing, said, "As the pace of change increases within the enterprise, development and IT operations are looking for reliable, scalable and high-performing cloud solutions to meet their needs. This partnership between Google and SUSE enables our joint customers to easily take advantage of a proven enterprise Linux operating platform and cloud infrastructure for the development of new workloads or to run one of the 10,000 applications that are certified on SUSE Linux Enterprise."

The SUSE Public Cloud program makes it easy for cloud service providers to offer differentiated services to customers. Many of today's top global cloud providers offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to help organizations deliver mission-critical IT services efficiently and cost effectively in cloud environments. In addition to Google, cloud providers participating in the SUSE Public Cloud program include 1&1, Amazon Web Services, Fujitsu, HP, Microsoft Azure, SGI, SHI, Tenzing, T-Systems, VMware and Vodacom Business.
