Reviews and 38% Market share Support SUSE Linux 7.1 With Kernel 2.4

Oakland, CA

Two months after shipping the world's first version of Linux based on Linus Torvalds' released Kernel 2.4, SuSE Linux, the international technology leader and solutions provider in open source operating systems, announced record March sales and outstanding reviews reflecting the power and stability of SUSE Linux 7.1. On February 12, the company announced two versions of the new system, SUSE Linux 7.1 Personal and SUSE Linux 7.1 Professional. Known for its technical superiority and stability, SUSE Linux claimed the highest market share with 38% of all sold commercial Linux operating systems throughout the Month of March.

"The latest figures reflect SUSE spearheading position in their technology expertise. SUSE was six weeks ahead of other Linux distributions to present a stable and reliable Operating on an advanced kernel. That was a decisive step towards Enterprise Computing and benefits both server and desktop applications," said Dirk Hohndel, president of the company's US operations.

SUSE Linux 7.1 with the new 2.4 kernel was highly anticipated by the Linux community and reviewers were writing "SUSE 7.1 is Chockful Of Goodies" (byte.com) and named "An Embarrassment of Riches" (linuxnovice.org). Although many reviewers did not agree to the Linux Planet statement: "Pack It Up and Go Home: SUSE Created a Windows-Killer", all of the reviewers agreed, that there is now a serious competitor lighting the radar screens. Offering a cut down, simple "Personal" version, did the important step towards the non-technical "non-geek" home desktop users.
