Package search in WebUI results No Packages

This document (000021336) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager Server 4.3

Situation

Package Search in SUSE Manager Server WebUI results in "No packages" for all packages using any search criteria.

The rhn_web_ui.log shows the  below error:
2023-12-05 07:35:58,363 [RHN Message Dispatcher] ERROR com.redhat.rhn.manager.errata.ErrataManager - Errata index not updated. Search server unavailable.ErrorCode = -1

        at com.redhat.rhn.manager.errata.ErrataManager.mergeErrataToChannel(ErrataManager.java:277) ~[rhn.jar:?]

Resolution

Increase the value of parameter rhn-search.java.maxmemory in the /etc/rhn/rhn.conf configuration file.

The maximum value for the parameter is 4096Mib.

Cause

When the client count increases significantly, "OutOfMemoryException" errors occur due to not enough java memory being available, resulting in package search failure.
