SAP HANA via Salt Formula fails to install HANA database

This document (000021163) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager Server 4.3

Situation

When registering a salt bundle client to the SUSE Manager Server and applying the SAP HANA formula through high-state on the client, it finishes successfully but the HANA database fails to install.

Resolution

1. The packages python3-shaptools and shaptools need to be installed on the client, and if the symlink is missing on the client follow these next steps:

  • Create symlink on the client and then apply the highstate again:
# ln -s /usr/lib/python3.6/site-packages/shaptools /usr/lib/venv-salt-minion/lib/python3.10/site-packages/shaptools
  • The output must be as follows:
# ll /usr/lib/venv-salt-minion/lib/python3.10/site-packages/shaptools
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Aug  1 14:03 /usr/lib/venv-salt-minion/lib/python3.10/site-packages/shaptools -> /usr/lib /python3.6/site-packages/shaptools

2. Run the following command on the SUSE Manager Server and ensure the hostname in the SAP HANA formula matches the host output:

# salt 'clienthostname' grains.item host

Cause

Hostname mismatch and the missing symlink causes the SAP HANA database to not install correctly on the client.
