"nvme list" does not show new firmware version after updating firmware

This document (000021154) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4

Situation

After updating the firmware on an NVMe device that supports firmware activation without reset,
'nvme list' does not reflect the updated version.
It still lists the firmware version that existed before updating the firmware.

Resolution

The following kernel updates fix the problem:

SLES 15 SP5 - kernel 5.14.21-150500.55.7.1  (released July/2023)
SLES 15 SP4 - kernel 5.14.21-150400.24.63.1 (released  May/2023)

Cause

The sysfs file firmware_rev was not updated on reset and contained the old version.
