Scanner - "Failed to register"

This document (000020893) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Situation

With auto-scan enabled, all containers are in a Schedule state and not progressing.  A review of the scanner logs reviews the following error.
2021-11-01T15:36:55.256|ERRO|SCN|main.scannerRegister: Failed to register - error=rpc error: code = DeadlineExceeded desc = context deadline exceeded
The Controller also throws the following error.
2021-11-01T15:37:25.259|ERRO|CTL|main.(*ScanService).ScannerRegisterStream: Receive error - error=rpc error: code = DeadlineExceeded desc = context deadline exceeded

Resolution

The error suggests a networking issue, but this is likely due to the resource limit being set too low for the scanner to complete the startup action of streaming data to the controller.

Typically, the scanner uses a low level of resources when idle.  It balloons to the size of the image to be scanned.  If a resource limit needs to be configured, set it to a value higher than the larger image that will be scanned.
