Environment

SUSE Manager Server 4.1

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2


Situation

The following command fails:
SUSEConnect -r <reg_code>
Registering system to SUSE Customer Center

Updating system details on https://scc.suse.com ...
SUSEConnect error: SocketError: Failed to open TCP connection to scc.suse.com:443 (getaddrinfo: Temporary failure in name resolution)

dig scc.suse.com
; <<>> DiG 9.16.6 <<>> scc.suse.com
;; global options: +cmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

nslookup scc.suse.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached





 

Resolution

Ensure DNS is working.

A temporarly workaround setting up current ip instead hostname:

/etc/SUSEConnect
url: <current_ip_of_scc.suse.com>

 

Cause

DNS server is not reachable because of several possibilities, one of these are:

1. DNS service is not listening

2. Blocked by firewall
