Growing number of deleted file handles in SUSE Manager may lead to taskomatic outage

This document (000020825) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager Server 4.3
SUSE Manager Server 4.3.1
SUSE Manager Server 4.3.2

Situation

Running e.g. lsof may take a considerable amount of time on SUSE Manager 4.3, 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 installations which is due to a high amount of remaining file handles of deleted JAVA processes. In certain circumstances this may lead to a malfunctioning taskomatic process and affect the availability of SUSE Manager Server.

Resolution

As the SUSE Manager 4.3.2. release contains a fix addressing the issue reported in "TID 00020800 - SUSE Manager webUI freezes, not accessible or times out with 4.3.1 update ", hence it is recommended to update to 4.3.2 first and make sure to apply the patch SUSE-SLE-Module-SUSE-Manager-Server-4.3-2022-3945. This is usually achieved automatically if zypper patch is executed without additional arguments.

If other patches were applied at the same time, a system reboot is recommended.

Additional Information

To check the number of deleted JAVA file handles please use:
date;lsof | grep -i delete | grep <pid-of-taskomatic-java-process> | wc -l
Example output:
suma:~ # date;lsof | grep -i delete | grep 7339 | wc -l
Tue Oct 25 09:08:46 CEST 2022
