Rados Gateway user receives a "QuotaExceeded" error although bucket usage reports otherwise

This document (000020534) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Enterprise Storage 6

Situation

When attempting to upload files, the user receives the following error: "S3 error: 403 (QuotaExceeded)"

However the user stats (radosgw-admin user stats --uid=<ins_user_id> --sync-stats) does not show the user to be exceeding either the set bucket and / or user quotas.

Resolution

Compare the stats for the relevant user shown with "radosgw-admin user stats --uid=<ins_user_id> --sync-stats" and "radosgw-admin bucket stats --bucket=<ins_user_bucket>" (needs to be checked for all relevant buckets). If the bucket stats for the buckets owned by the user show a total usage less than the set quota it may be needed to fix the issue be resetting the user stats using:

radosgw-admin user stats --uid=<ins_user_id> --reset-stats

Cause

Historically the Rados Gateway had several bugs that could lead to bucket stats inconsistencies.

Additional Information

The following commands may also be useful, to view a users configured quota settings:

radosgw-admin user info --uid=<ins_user_id>

To verify a users bucket usage:

radosgw-admin usage show --uid=<ins_user_id>
