Environment

SUSE Manager 4.1 Server
SUSE Manager 4.2 Server

Situation

Major version upgrade/migration is triggered on SUSE Manager Server (migration from SLE 12 to SLE 15). SUSE Manager System as well as the client are running in Azure Cloud. When the migration of the client is triggered within the "Provisioning" tab on top of SUSE Manager Server web-UI, the auto-installation is started correctly, "reinstall system" is chosen from the grub menu, however, then the migration hangs on client side and following message is visible in Azure console.

Booting 'reisntall-system'

Resolution

Within SUSE Manager Server web-UI, in the "Autoinstallation -> Profile" of the upgrade go to "Autoinstallation Details" and add to the "Kernel Options" following:

textmode=1 console=ttyS0
