winbind - one way trust does not work

This document (000020245) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2

Situation

This is a particular scenario where DOMAIN1 has a one way trust with DOMAIN2.
Using 2 way trust between DOMAIN1 and DOMAIN2 at AD windows it is working in the same winbind setup.
For example, when try to login as "DOMAIN1\user" using ssh, it is working. In case "DOMAIN2\user", cannot login and appears the following messages in /var/log/messages:
pam_winbind(sshd:auth): request wbcLogonUser failed: WBC_ERR_AUTH_ERROR, PAM error: PAM_AUTHINFO_UNAVAIL (9), NTSTATUS: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS, Error message was: No logon servers are currently available to service the logon request.

Resolution

Try to set "krb5_auth = no" in /etc/security/pam_winbind.conf.

Cause

If krb5_auth is set to yes winbind tries to open a NETLOGON pipe to a domain controller in DOMAIN2 and fails because its computer account is in DOMAIN1 and the trust direction is the opposite. This is one of the pam_winbind.conf issues mentioned in the samba 4.8 release notes.
