This document (000019936) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2

Situation

The following messages are observed in dmesg and /var/log/messages when SRIOV VFs are being assigned to VMs
irq 86: Affinity broken due to vector space exhaustion.
irq 87: Affinity broken due to vector space exhaustion.

Resolution

The issue is resolved by installing the following irqbalance package version:
irqbalance-1.4.0-12.3.1
Released on March 29, 2021:
https://lists.suse.com/pipermail/sle-updates/2021-March/018381.html

However, if there are newer versions available, it is recommended to install the most recent versions.

Cause

The messages occur because the irqbalance utility incorrectly identifies CPUs from NUMA node 1 as belonging to NUMA node 0.
