Migrating a SLES 12 SP1 for POWER LE system to SLES for SAP Applications for POWER LE 12 SP1

This document (7018295) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1  (ppc64le)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1  (ppc64le)

Situation

A running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1 needs to be migrated to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1 without reinstalling it.

Resolution

Please note that  neither SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1 nor SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1 are supported anymore, therefore a Migration is no longer supported as well.

Download the following RPM file to the server running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1. It is not required that this system (the source system) is registered with SUSE Customer Center or SMT server.

migrate-sles-to-sles4sap-12.1-7.1.noarch.rpm

Install the RPM:

    # rpm -Uhv migrate-sles-to-sles4sap-12.1-7.1.noarch.rpm

After installation run the interactive script and follow the instruction on the screen.

NOTE: you need to have your email address as well as a valid registration key for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications (the target system) at hand:

       # Migrate_SLES_to_SLES-for-SAP-12.sh

Please note that the migration routine only handles system registration and product name change, it does not automatically install any additional software. A manually install of the  SAP related software patterns via zypper or YaST after having completed the migration routine is necessary. In case you do have packages installed that have dependencies against IBM Java, you may have to reinstall them at the end of the procedure.

A reboot of the system is not necessary unless you install packages from the newly added channels which require such Disclaimer.
