YaST2 freezes occasionally

This document (7007146) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

Yast2 on SLES11 SP1 occasionally freezes.
Reported scenarios amongst others:

* trying to add an iso image as installation source
* clicking "Abort" during Softwaremanagement

Killing the YaST2 process is the only way out of this.

Resolution

SUSE Engineering is aware of this and working on a solution.

As a workaround, run "qtconfig" as root and change the GUI style to "Plastique"

Furthermore, running yast inside a terminal window is not affected as well, only YaST2 is having problems.

Additional Information

Note: qtconfig has to be executed as ROOT user to switch the Gui style for YaST2 which runs as root as well.
When logged in as unprivileged user, open a terminal, become root with: "su - " then run qtconfig from that terminal.

Instead of running qtconfig,  simply execute in a root terminal:

echo "style=Plastique">> /root/.config/Trolltech.conf

It doesn't matter if a different style already is in that file, the last occurrence wins.
