GLX applications fail to start on Intel GFX cards with MESA 9.0.x

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Service Pack 3

Situation

GLX based applications fail to start on Intel based GFX cards with e.g.:

# glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
X Error of failed request:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request:  154 (GLX)
  Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
  Serial number of failed request:  22
  Current serial number in output stream:  23

Resolution

If this issue is encountered please contact Technical Services for a Program Temporary Fix.

Cause

A regression in the Mesa 9.0.x version.
