openais does not honor START_ON_BOOT setting in /etc/sysconfig/openais

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 4

Situation

/etc/init.d/openais service starts despite setting START_ON_BOOT=no in /etc/sysconfig/openais. This issue is only seen on long time running systems (e.g. got installed during Service Pack 2) and not on fresh deployed SLES 11 SP4 systems.

Resolution

Please set RUN_PARALLEL="no" in /etc/sysconfig/boot to prevent parallel execution of init scripts. In SLES 11 SP4 this option is the default, hence the issue is not encountered.

Cause

/etc/init.d/openais is started by startpar and appears like a manual call but it is executed from runlevels actually.
