AWS or Azure SUSE cloud instance missing software repositories.

This document (7022311) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)

SUSE software repositories are not configured for a SLE cloud instance.
Because of this, zypper or YaST may not be able to install new software or migrate to a new service pack.

Run the following command to re-register the SLE instance against its respective cloud repository :
hostname:~ # /usr/sbin/registercloudguest --force-new

Additional Information

This registration method is ONLY applicable to SUSE cloud instances in AWS or Azure public cloud environments.

For standard SUSE installations, the traditional registration method must be used for the respective SLE release :
  • SLE11 systems should use suse_register for registration
  • SLE12 systems should use SUSEConnect (with the exception of the SLE12/OES2018 product, which uses suse_register to connect to Micro Focus repositories).
Alternatively, these systems may also register against a local mirror such as a SUSE Manager or SMT/RMT server.

SLE instances created in a SUSE OpenStack Cloud environment should use the cloud's local SMT to handle registration.
