Situation

This document has a collection of useful technical documents about the migration of a regular SLES server to a SLES for SAP applications server.

Resolution

Cause

SLES and SLES for SAP are two different products, you can not register a SLES with a SLES for SAP activation key and vice versa.

Instead of performing a new-installation it is also possible to use the above migration tools provided by SUSE.

NOTE:
Migrating the other direction is a different matter. Some features of SLES for SAP like extended lifecycle and High Availability are not included in SLES and may require additional subscriptions, blocking the migration.
Thus, a migration from SLES for SAP to SLES is not recommended and not supported as additional SAP packages might break.
