How to add the SLE 11 SDK online repositories without media

This document (7015337) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2 (SLES 11 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)

Situation

A SLES 11 SP3 system should be configured to access the SDK online repositories. Adding the product as outlined in TID 7007133 - How to use and register SUSE Linux Enterprise add-on products is not possible for given reasons.

Resolution

The following steps should only be used if access to the ISO media is not possible. Adding a product as outlined in TID 7007133 - How to use and register SUSE Linux Enterprise add-on products
still represents the official way.
  1. Install these two RPMs for SP3:
    http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP3-Pool/sle-11-x86_64/rpm/x86_64/sle-sdk-release-11.3-1.69.x86_64.rpm
    http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP3-Pool/sle-11-x86_64/rpm/x86_64/sle-sdk-release-SDK-11.3-1.69.x86_64.rpm

Install these two RPMs for SP4:
    http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP4-Pool/sle-11-x86_64/rpm/x86_64/sle-sdk-release-11.4-1.55.x86_64.rpm
    http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP4-Pool/sle-11-x86_64/rpm/x86_64/sle-sdk-release-SDK-11.4-1.55.x86_64.rpm

The above RPM is only valid for SLE 11 SDK SP3/SP4 x86_64, if the package is required for different architectures, please use http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP3-Pool/ and then navigate through the architecture you need. For other service packs please adjust the URL accordingly (e.g.
    http://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLE11-SDK-SP4-Pool/).

  2. Install the rpms using rpm -ivh sle-sdk-release-*

  3. Make sure the product metadata shows the sle-sdk as installed. This is indicated by the "i" in the first column:
    sles11sp3:~ # zypper pd
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    S | Repository | Internal Name | Name                                                  | Version    | Arch   | Is Base
    --+------------+---------------+-------------------------------------------------------+------------+--------+--------
    i | @System    | sle-sdk       | SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 11 SP3 | 11.3-1.69  | x86_64 | No
    i | @System    | SUSE_SLES     | SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3                   | 11.3-1.138 | x86_64 | Yes

  4. Run suse_register
  5. Check the active repositories using zypper lr -E:
    sles11sp3:~ # zypper lr -E
    #  | Alias                                            | Name                                             | Enabled | Refresh
