SMT 11 not able to connect to NCC via proxy

This document (7009408) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Subscription Management Tool (SMT) for SUSE Linux Enterprise 11

Situation

The SMT server uses a proxy server to connect to the Novell Customer Center (NCC). A version of rpm package "smt" not greater than 1.1.21-0.2.1 is installed.

With perl-libwww-perl version 5.816-2.19.1 the smt-ncc-sync command aborts with:

Can't connect to secure-www.novell.com:443 (Connection timed out)
LWP::Protocol::https::Socket: connect: Connection timed out at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.10.0/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 57.

With perl-libwww-perl version 5.816-2.23.1 the smt-ncc-sync command aborts with one of the following error messages:

E 'https://nu.novell.com//repo/repoindex.xml': Too many redirects

or

E 'https://nu.novell.com//repo/repoindex.xml': 501 Not Implemented
or

500 Internal Server Error

or

Error Code: 502 Proxy Error

Resolution

Please update the rpm packages smt, smt-support, and res-signingkeys to version 1.1.22-0.2.1 or higher. Please note that the underlying SLES 11 system needs to be on Service Pack 1 level. If it isn't make sure to upgrade to SLES11 SP1 via the following TID first: TID 7005410 - How to upgrade to SLES/SLED 11 SP1.

Then restart the SMT service via "rcsmt restart". This patch makes SMT use perl-WWW-Curl.
