Networking problems with SLES 11 SP1 VM installed on Hyper-V

This document (7008116) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V

Situation

Regular loss of network connectivity on SLES 11 SP1 VM (Guest) running under a Hyper-V Host.

Resolution

Please update the SLES 11 SP1 Guest to, at minimum, the 2.6.32.36-0.5.2 kernel and version 0_2.6.32.36_0.5-0.14.1of hyper-v-kmp-default.  (released on 04/27/2011)

If the problem persists, apply the following Microsoft hotfixes (or preferably W2K8 R2 SP1) to the Windows 2008 R2 Hyper_V host:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974909
--This one appears to have been included in an update.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2264080/fi

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981836
--This one only references Windows 2003 VM's but, according to Microsoft, also applies to SLES VM's.
