LSI 1068 Controller not recognized during SLES 11 installation

This document (7003835) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

An attempt to install SLES 11 on a system equipped with LSI 1068 Controller as RAID 1 (two disks) failed with the message:

" Error. Hard disk has not been detected for the installation. Verify your hardware."

With SLES 10, there was no such an issue and the output from `lspci -vv` does look like the following:

82:03.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068 PCI-X

Resolution

Obviously the controller has not been correctly detected; this is due to the fact that, enabling the MSI which is the default setting, has not worked in this system.

To solve this issue, it is recommended to enter the following option at boot prompt:
mptbase.mpt_enabled_msi_sas=0

Additional Information

This option does only disable MSI for the SAS controllers.
