Novell Customer Center registration fails with ERROR 407 through proxy server

This document (7001765) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server (ISA)

Registration via Novell Customer Center fails through the proxy, even though proxy configurations have been set in yast, firefox, and zen-updater.

Firefox is able to access the internet successfully through the proxy.  Proxy server is configured for NTLM authentication.

ERROR: 407 MESSAGE:  Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied.  )

ERROR: Execute curl command failed with '56':
curl: (56) Received HTTP code 407 from proxy after CONNECT

The proxy server log shows the authentication request being sent as user "anonymous".

After configuring the proxy in Yast2, running the "Test Proxy Settings" returns the following:

WORKAROUND: Enable Basic Authentication on the Proxy Server.

Reported to Engineering

Additional Information

Yast attempts to connect to the proxy using Basic Authentication, but the server is configured to only accept NTLM as seen in the output for the Proxy Test screen shot above.

A potential workaround exists in an 3rd party packagentlmaps.  Information can be found at  This is not an official Novell supported solution.
