Unable to Quarantine Incoming Email Messages with MailScanner ( NOWS SBE ver 2 )

This document (7001090) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Novell Open Workgroup Suite Small Business Edition ver 2 (NOWS SBE ver 2)
MailScanner

Situation

Changing the following directive in the /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf file should quarantine incoming mail messages that MailScanner deams as spam.

High Scoring Spam Actions = deliver header "X-Spam-Status: Yes"

to

High Scoring Spam Actions = store

Resolution

The spam should be stored in the /var/spool/MailScanner/quarantine directory, but the default rights are not enough to allow the postfix process to create files and directory structures.  If the rights are set properly, a subdirectoy with the current date shoulld be created below the quarantine directory.

To remedy the rights issue, open a terminal window and do the following:

1.  If you are not the superuser, change to it by issuing the command

su -

2.  Change the directory ownership for the quarantine directory to the postfix user and group

chown postfix:postfix /var/spool/MailScanner/quarantine

3.  Restart the MailScanner and Postfix daemons.

/etc/init.d/MailScanner restart
