SLES 9 NFS client unable to mount SLES 9 NFS Server's vxfs export.

This document (3338250) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Novell SLES 10
Novell SLES 9 SP3
Novell SLES 9 SP2

Situation

SLES NFS client unable to mount SLES NFS Server's vxfs export.
When Veritas software setup the disk as block devices under /dev/xv/dsk/, it setup the major numbers at 199 and the minor numbers over 65000. Minor numbers are traditionally only 8 bits long (0 - 255). Some things in Linux have been enhanced to handle larger minor numbers, but it can still cause problems for some applications or processes.

Resolution

The minor numbers on the block devices must be set to something less than 255.
From that document:
unshare the volumes, and umount them first
vxdg -g dg reminor 3
then mount and share
