Hyperlinks to local file system are handled incorrectly when opening a MS Word document

This document (3056579) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

OpenOffice.org Writer 2.3.0.4.5 Novell Edition

Situation

When opening Microsoft Word documents using Novell OpenOffice.org, the hyperlink pointing to local file system that are eventually present in the document, are considered as Internet hyperlink and the prefix "HTTP://" is added.

This broke the hyperlink itself and cause the browser to start instead of the original pointed file to open.

This issue affects both OpenOffice.org for Linux and for Windows.

Resolution

Fixed in OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 Novell Edition or later.

  3. Save and close the document;
  4. Open the same MS Word document using Open Office 2.3.0.4.5;
  5. Move the mouse on the hyperlink;
  6. You'll notice that "HTTP://" has been added before the file name;
  7. The hyperlink is being considered as an internet link instead of a local file system link;
  8. Use CTRL + Left Click on the Hyperlink and the local browser will start instead of the originally pointed document to open up.
