autoyast language configuration

This document (3027227) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SuSE Linux Enterprise autoyast installation.

Situation

Using an autoyast installation you want to enforce a specific encoding for the configured language.
For example for the language en_US you would like to have the language encoding set to:

ISO-8859-1
You try to specify this in autoyast via:

< language>en_US.ISO-8859-1
en_US

But this give you a completely different language and encoding after the installation.

Resolution

Unfortunately autoyast does currently not support setting a specific encoding.
The setting:

en_US.ISO-8859-1
is considered to be invalid by autoyast and a default language will be used instead.
You can only specify a language that way, e.g.:

en_US

would be a valid setting.
In order to enforce a specific encoding after the installation you can edit the file:

/etc/sysconfig/language

and set RC_LANG manually, e.g.:

RC_LANG="en_US.ISO-8859-1"
