YAST Online Update (YOU) fails

Environment


Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9

Situation

Cannot run the YAST Online Update (YOU) to https://you.novell.com/update
ERROR:  Patch information retrieval failed.
ERROR:  error error setting certificate verify locations: CAfile: /usr/share/curl/curl-ca-bundle/crt CApath: none.

Resolution

The server is not setup to use secure sites; cannot use https://.

To setup the server to use secure sites, you will need to go into YAST | SOFTWARE| YAST Online Updates. Under the Update Configuration section hit the down arrow key under Installation Source and change it to "update sdb.suse.de /youfix" then run the update.

Once you successfully run the update, this will allow you to use secure https:// support.

Next, change the Installation Support back to User-defined Location and set the location to https://you.novell.com/update

You now can continue with the YOU update.
