After migration from SUMA 4.3 to SMLM 5.0 old data is shown.

This document (000021847) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.0
SUSE Manager 4.3

Situation

After migration only older information is available in the database.

Resolution

On the SUSE Manager 4.3 Server:

# mv /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg14 /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg14.bak

On the SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.0 Server:

Before attempting to re-start the migration from scratch, execute the command:

# mgradm uninstall --force --purge-volumes

After that, re-run the migration.

Cause

During the migration from SUSE Manager 4.3 to SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.0 the PostgreSQL version upgrade is performed from version 14 to version 16.  During this process a folder is used called /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg14/.

During the migration the entire contents of the /var/lib/pgsql/ directory from the SUSE Manager 4.3 Server are copied to the SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.0 Server, so the PostgreSQL version upgrade is taking the old information from the already existing /var/lib/pgsql/data-pg14/ directory erroneously.

This directory is present on the SUSE Manager 4.3, having been created at some point in the past during a previous PostgreSQL upgrade.  Since SUSE Manager 4.3 uses PostgreSQL 14 and SUSE Multi-Linux Manager 5.0 Server uses PostgreSQL 16, this folder should not be there during the migration process.
