Base image for SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP3 and 15 SP4 LTSS accessibility change

This document (000021318) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise BCI 15 SP4
SUSE Linux Enterprise BCI 15 SP3

Situation

SUSE Linux Enterprise BCI 15 SP4 images are based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP4, which is entering Long Term ServicePack Support (LTSS) phase as of Jan. 1. 2024. As we align BCI and SUSE Linux Enterprise lifecycle, BCI 15 SP4 images are entering LTSS phase as well.

Starting Jan. 1st, users will need a SUSE Linux Enterprise LTSS subscription to get updates, additional repositories or packages for these images.

This change will also apply to previous versions, such as SUSE Linux Enterprise BCI 15 SP3.

Resolution

To make the availability of the product vs the repositories more consistent, SUSE is aligning those.

Once a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server product enters the LTSS phase, SUSE  will stop offering public updates for the base image belonging to this product, and instead offer them under a subscription protected area of the SUSE registry.

SLES 15 SP3:

registry.suse.com/suse/sle15:15.3 aka bci/bci-base:15.3 is no longer being updated starting 01 Jan 2024
registry.suse.com/suse/ltss/sle15.3/bci-base:15.3 is provided in its place.

SLES 15 SP4:

registry.suse.com/suse/sle15:15.4  aka bci/bci-base:15.4 is no longer being updated starting 01 Jan 2024
registry.suse.com/suse/ltss/sle15.4/bci-base:15.4 is provided in its place.

To pull these images authentication against our registry using SCC credentials is required.
How to pull images via podman is documented here:

    https://documentation.suse.com/container/all/html/Container-guide/index.html#container-ltss-images

To get repositories inside the container, please add the LTSS credentials to the host system so it can be picked up by the container.
